In addition to recommended local country walks along the banks of the River Yare, the ancient Peddars Way is a must for hikers, running northwards through The Brecks to join the Norfolk Coast Path National Trail.
The route features good car access and a range of pubs and tea rooms.
At its southern end, the Peddars Way takes walkers into Thetford Forest, Britain’s largest lowland pine forest, with its miles of waymarked trails.
Thetford itself is the home of the Dad’s Army museum (www.dadsarmythetford.org.uk) and trail.
